For the Love… & Silent Teardrops

This collection of short stories and poems is near and dear to my heart because I explored love, God, fear, and sex (just to name a few) and approached everything from a completely different perspective. I learned so much from Silent Teardrops – things that could have been done differently, tips for making it better, and the experience of self-publishing itself was an invaluable teacher – and For the Love… definitely shows my growth as an author!

For the Love…was fun, exciting and challenging to write. I’ve never shared any of my poetry with others therefore I am eager to present something new and different to those who enjoyed Silent Teardrops as well as to those who have no idea who I am and how I share much of myself through words.

  

Set in a small South Carolina town in the 1970’s, Silent Teardrops follows four members of one family as the connections between them are tested by a difficult present and a haunted past. Sheila craves a baby more than anything, but the journey to get what she wants leads her to betrayal and tests her sanity. James struggles with flashbacks of combat in Vietnam as he tries to become a better husband and a better man. Those memories ultimately lead him down a path of recklessness and destruction. Ruthie must learn to embrace love, as she seeks to move forward after learning a shocking truth about her family’s past. And John wants nothing more than happiness for his daughters, but his own sins from long ago jeopardize that happiness, and the relationships he so desperately wants to rebuild. Adultery, drug abuse, lies, and deceit threaten and challenge them all. Each finds that ultimately the battle will be fought within. And in a shocking conclusion, one of them loses the fight.

Silent Teardrops is an engaging and suspenseful debut novel by Jennifer N. Shannon. As she did in For the Love, Short Stories and Poems, Vol. 1, Shannon explores the complexities of love, family, relationships, and truth. Her characters are real, compelling, and unforgettable. Not only will you find yourself engrossed in the story, you will find yourself falling deeper in love with these four characters with each page you turn.
